Frequently Asked Questions

How and when do I register my child for baseball?

Our registration process begins December 1st and will run through middle of February. Exact dates will be announced by November 1st. We conduct an on-line registration process so you can easily register your child and pay for the registration fees.

What is covered in the cost of my registration?

ABL is a non-profit organization. The registration fee includes: Little League registration, medical insurance, umpire fees, equipment costs, field and facility maintenance costs, utility fees, website administration fees, trophy costs and a t-shirt and hat for the players and coaches.

  • Field/Facility (Field chalk, mowers, gas, garbage, electricity, water, field and building repairs, bathroom supplies)
  • Equipment (game balls, practice balls, scorebooks, medical bag)

When does the season start and how long is it?

Each season will begin practices approximately 2 weeks prior to games beginning. Depending on the number of teams, a typical season will consist of 8 game weeks, and 1 tournament week from April thru June.

How are teams formed?

Teams are formed based on the following items: Age Bracket, Player Skill Day Assessment, and the Coaches Drafting process. Our Player Skills Day Assessment is typically held at the beginning of March with Coaches Draft Day the following week. Coaches are responsible for communicating to their teams no later than the end of March.

How does the Draft process work?

Each Coach is highly encouraged to attend the Player Skill Day to assess the player’s ability and ask questions related to their baseball experience.  The Coaches then attend a Draft Day where selection of players occurs. The Draft order is determined by a random selection of numbers. The numbers will correspond with the amount of teams for that division. Each coach will draw a number and will be assigned picking order based on the number drawn. The Draft method will follow a “Serpentine” format where the order reverses itself at the end of each round, allowing for the coach with the last pick in the round to have the first pick in the following round.

Can I request a certain coach or make a special request?

While the ABL Board recognizes that there may be a request for a certain coach or for certain players to be on the same team to assist in transportation, our first priority is to ensure that we follow our Draft process. This is important to help keep the teams even based on skill level.
